Liverpool continued their winning start with the Premier League season. Chelsea notched their first win under Frank Lampard this weekend. Who makes our team of the week?
Liverpool maintained their 100% start of the Premier League season with an impressive 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.
Mohammed Salah was twice on target to help see the Gunners. Chelsea eventually got the better of Norwich in a 3-2 thriller at Carrow Road after Tammy Abraham’s double.
At Old Trafford, Crystal Palace shocked Manchester United with a 2-1 win after 30 years with no success. Manchester City was too good for Bournemouth. On the other side, Aston Villa bagged their first three points of the season in a comfortable win over Everton. But which individual performance stood out this weekend?
Premier League Team of the Week
Liverpool
Alexander Arnold’s set-piece duty for the Reds against Arsenal and Matip met his corner to open the scoring. The Cameroon defender, Matip, started the Reds last two matches and appears to move ahead of Joe Gomez in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.
Mohammed Salah terrorized David Luiz. His penalty became one of the best seen in recent years while the second, Salah was at his very best streaking clear of the covering defenders and slamming home.
Manchester City
Silva is a Manchester City legend and the performance against Bournemouth will only reinforce that opinion. The Spaniard provided two assists and should have a penalty as he pulled the string at the Vitality stadium.
Crystal Palace
Palace caused the shock of the weekend. The Eagles took the three points off United at Old Trafford with Van Aanholt scoring the winner with seconds remaining.
The Dutchman has developed a reputation as a marauding full-back but his defensive work also solid here as the Eagles earned their first win of the campaign.
Chelsea
Kovacic has flattered to deceive during his time at Stamford Bridge but this was arguably his best performance in Chelsea shirt. The Croatian, dynamic in possession and robust in defense drove his team forward as the Blues showed some real grit to earn a result against a dogged Norwich side.
Tammy Abraham was a shining light as he scored his first two senior goals for the Blues. A fierce half-volley in the opening minutes was followed up by an excellent touch, run and finish that will have fans excited for the rest of the season.
