Chris Jordan joins MI as Jofra Archer ruled out of IPL 2023

Just before the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today (May 9), Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a major setback. MI’s lead bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of IPL 2023 and he is returning to England to focus on his rehab. Mumbai Indians have replaced English fast bowler Chris Jordan in the squad.

The Englishman, Jogfra Archer has been running injured since the beginning of the year 2021 and he had a couple of surgeries as well. Archer has undergone surgery six times in the last 26 months. Archer now has to return to the national country due to not fully recovering from injury and surgery.

5-time IPL Champions MI have issued a statement saying, ‘Chris Jordan will join MI for the rest of the season. He has been included in the team in place of Jofra Archer. The English Cricket Board (ECB) is keeping an eye on the 28-year-old gun bowler’s recovery and fitness. He will now return to England to focus on his rehab.

Jofra Archer Ruled Out

The Flamboyant bowler has played only 5 matches for MI this season and he has just 2 wickets in those matches. Archer had to take a break of four matches only after the first match. Actually, during the bowling in the first match. He had some problem with his right elbow and then he had to undergo very minor surgery. This surgery was done in Belgium. After this, Archer returned in IPL 2023 and then played four out of 5 matches.

The English speedster’s performance in IPL 2023 showed the effect of his frequent injuries and surgeries. Archer was able to take only two wickets in 5 matches. During this, he scored runs at an economy rate of 9.5 runs per over. Although Archer’s speed remained around 145 mph.

In the ongoing edition of the League, MI currently stands in 8th place after match number 53 of the IPL 2023. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s side Mumbai has got the perfect start on the top as the captain himself got 3 ducks in his last 5 innings which is a concern for him going for the WTC final. On the other side, Du Plessis’ side RCB is Currently in 6th place, a win in tonight’s match will take them to 3rd place in the league.
