In the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai Indians team is going through a very bad phase. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy team has not won any match in the season so far. This is the first time in the history of the league that a team has lost the first seven matches. Meanwhile, former team batsman Chris Lynn said that in the current season it is ’11 different people’ on the field instead of ’11 players’.

Mumbai Indians suffered a 3-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday, their 7th consecutive loss in the current season. Lynn, who was a part of Mumbai’s team in 2020 and 2021, said, ‘Winning and losing is a habit. Mumbai has problems with batting, bowling, fielding and mentally. It seems the team is divided into different groups.

This 32-year-old former Australia batsman said that the senior players of the team are not supporting the captain in pressure situations. This was not the case when he was part of this team. Lynn, who played a match for Mumbai, said, ‘When you are very low in the table, like the captain, Kieron Pollard also usually comes from deep mid on or mid off to help, calm you down.’

“We haven’t seen this with Mumbai yet because they have started splitting into smaller factions now and that’s not a good sign,” he said. I think the atmosphere in the dressing room will also not be good.” Chris Lynn has played four ODIs and 18 T20 Internationals for Australia. He was also part of the team that won this league title for the fifth time in 2020.

He said, “Flip side of that, when they won the tournament two years ago, there were conversations happening all the time – how can we get better, how can we get out of the over. All those little organic conversations were happening without coaching staff telling them to do that because blokes were up and about wanting to win. So we are not seeing that, we are seeing the complete opposite: it seems like instead of a team of 11, there’s 11 individuals out there.”

Winning is a habit and losing is a habit,” Chris Lynn said. “And we are seeing that with Chennai at the other end, they are playing some decent cricket. Mumbai on the other hand – they have got issues with the bat, with the ball, and in the field and mentally. It just seems like there are factions everywhere in the set-up. So hopefully they can sort that out soon because when Mumbai is playing good cricket it is good for IPL, it’s good for world cricket, and they are a very, very impressive side when they are doing well.”
