Christian Eriksen is expected to complete a sensational return to the Premier League and signs for Brentford in the next three days

The former Tottenham midfielder has not played since suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at the European Championships in June 2021.

He was released by Inter Milan last month as Serie A rules do not allow players to take to the field with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which Eriksen has been fitted with.

The 29-year-old will be announced as a Brentford player ‘inside the next 72 hours’ because all that is left to do is for him to pass a medical.

The report adds that despite offers from other Premier League teams and sides in the Netherlands and Germany, Eriksen believes that the Bees are the best club for him as he seeks to earn a place in Denmark’s World Cup squad later this year.

Thomas Frank’s side are currently 14th in the Premier League table, following a 2-1 defeat at home against Wolves on Saturday.

Sources reported earlier this week that Eriksen has been offered a six-month contract in west London with the option to extend for a further year.

He has impressed while training with Ajax and believes that he will be fit enough to feature for the Bees within the next month.

The reigning Eredivisie champions – Eriksen’s former club – allowed him to join Erik ten Hag’s squad so that he could get used to elite-level training again and players were said to be ‘shocked’ at his fitness levels.

The midfielder clocked up 226 Premier League appearances during his previous spell in England with Spurs, scoring 51 goals in the top flight.
