Christian Eriksen hasn’t had a competitive game since his Euro 2020 collapse, but has now taken another step closer to a senior comeback.

A little about the topic

The Danish footballer played for an hour and provided an assist in Brentford’s closed friendly against Southend on Monday as the Danish star rose to the top in pursuit of a return to the PL. The 30-year-old looks set to make his debut before the end of February as he continues to spell out a remarkable return to action following his arrival at Brentford Community Stadium. Christian Eriksen, who celebrated his birthday along with opening minutes on the Thomas Frank’s side, has not played since suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last summer, but nevertheless turned in a performance that suggested he didn’t lose touch in the interim period.

Christian Eriksen’s game

In the first of what will be at least two warm-up games for the player, Christian started for the Brentford XI against the Shrimpers as the hosts ran out a 3-2 winner against their minor league opposition. The midfielder came close to opening the scoring in early exchanges before setting up Josh Dasilva for what would be the first of a possible hat-trick for the latter on his own return from injury. Christian was sent off at the hour mark to be replaced by Gordon, in a pre-planned tactical shift to get the last step of his comeback unscathed.

Debut of Christian Eriksen

With one game warm-up down, Christian could theoretically make his debut as early as this weekend, against Arsenal, as Brentford look to whack the north London side. Christian Eriksen is likely to play off the bench for a cameo if, however, he sees the Bees’ subsequent clash with Newcastle as a more likely opening opportunity for the playmaker. Regardless of which match he ends up returning to, his mere presence will prove to be a remarkable accomplishment for the midfielder after his career looked to be over in the midst of the Euro 2020 deadline.
