Courtois: “I still don’t realize the successes we’ve achieved”
The situation
Thibaut Courtois has published a letter on his website in which he explains how he has enjoyed the holidays and how hungry he is to win titles again. The first thing he mentions in the letter is the disconnection from the world of football that he has experienced during his vacation. “I had time to relax and clear my head. Playing with the children, spending time with my family and with my friends was rewarding because during the season you are only thinking about the next game” . He also had words for his fiancee, Mishel, of whom he says that he “is part of my life as a footballer and as a family man.” Regarding his physical work during his rest days, Courtois has acknowledged that “during the first three weeks I let my body rest and did not do any training”. However, he confesses that later he got to work with his personal trainer to fully recover from some discomfort he had, a pubalgia. “First I did training in the gym and then on the grass. I’m already recovered from the injury and my body feels ready to start the preseason”.
The details
Courtois admits that sometimes it is difficult for him to value the three titles won last season, but he also states that “the fans remind them of it because the impact that victories have on them is sometimes forgotten by us players”. He also mentions that “the congratulations for winning the Champions League were many. I felt a great compliment especially after the European Cup final against Liverpool. That has made me very happy.” About the next season, which has already started, he says that “I am looking forward to it. Madrid brings out the best in oneself. Winning the Champions League with the best club in the world has been an honor. Dreams come true”. He also wanted to highlight that “the team is very hungry and everything starts very soon with the European Super Cup . Finally, he has named the World Cup in Qatar , since “this tournament will make the season even more intense than any other”. With these words, the Belgian welcomes a season that is expected to be very beautiful, but at the same time long and hard.
