Days before the start of the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo will miss training with Portugal as the fallout from his controversial interview with Piers Morgan continues.

A few days before the start of the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to miss a training session with Portugal due to an injury.

It has been reported that the Manchester United forward has a stomach bug and will miss Wednesday night’s training session.

Despite Ronaldo’s recent explosive interview with Piers Morgan, the Portuguese national team is currently in Qatar in preparation for Sunday’s start of the World Cup.

After Ronaldo’s illness, he may not play for Portugal on Thursday when they face Nigeria in a tune-up match.

Group H begins to play on Thursday, June 1, against Ghana. From there, Fernando Santos’ squad will take on Uruguay and South Korea.

A portion of Ronaldo’s explosive sitdown interview with Morgan was scheduled to air on TalkTV on the same night he was reportedly absent.

Clips from the 90-minute interview, which was not approved by Manchester United, have been widely shared online in recent days. The 37-year-old has stated his distaste for Erik ten Hag and his assertion that he feels “betrayed” by the club.

In one of the most recent clips shown before the full interview’s release on Wednesday and Thursday, Ronaldo criticizes his former Old Trafford teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney, as well as the club’s unpopular owners, the Glazer family.

An awkward exchange with international teammates Bruno Fernandes and Joao Cancelo preceded Ronaldo’s illness, capping a tumultuous few days for the veteran forward.
