Ronaldo has been linked with a quick exit just a year after his surprise return to Former Trafford, but his old boss Fergie might play a role in keeping him in Manchester.

In a series of private meetings, Cristiano Ronaldo addressed his future at Manchester United with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Throughout United’s tumultuous season, Ronaldo and Ferguson, who live near one other in Cheshire, have had regular discussions over cups of tea at their respective opulent houses. Ronaldo has been a frequent visitor to Fergie’s house, and the famous United manager has spent time with the striker and his family at the star’s own residence nearby.

Ferguson, who initially brought Ronaldo to United in 2003, was pivotal in the 37-year-old striker’s £12.9 million return to the club last summer. Ronaldo and Ferguson have long had a tight connection, and Ferguson is reported to want Ronaldo to safeguard his legacy by staying at Old Trafford next season.

Ronaldo has had a fantastic season for United, scoring 24 goals including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich. Real Madrid, his old club, has taken notice of his scoring prowess.

Despite the fact that the Portuguese international has a year remaining on his contract, with the option of a third, the club’s crisis has led to rumors that he may leave this summer. Ferguson is said to want Ronaldo to remain at least another season, and the two are said to have discussed how United’s season has fallen apart since the striker came from Juventus last summer.

Ronaldo has been tight-lipped about his future plans, with new manager Erik ten Hag poised to take over from interim coach Ralf Rangnick this summer. After scoring in the 3-0 win against Brentford, the star hinted that he would stay to see whether he can contribute to ten Hag’s vision for a greater United future.

The attacker celebrated his score by pointing to himself, then the pitch, before striking his famous ‘Siuuu’ posture. A pirated poster of Ronaldo promoting United’s impending visit to Australia was also discovered. However, Ronaldo has remained tight-lipped about his plans, despite ten Hag reportedly being prepared to make significant changes. Ronaldo wants to play as many games as possible next season, despite his age.

And if Dutch CEO ten Hag just wants to utilize him sparingly as he plans for the future, that may cause friction.
