Man United may be able to assist Joao Felix in finding a new club if he leaves Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.
Joao Felix has requested a transfer from Atletico Madrid in the upcoming January, paving the way for a possible swap with Manchester United and the club’s free agent forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 23-year-old Felix has fallen out of favor after scoring four goals in just 5 starts out of Atleti’s 14 La Liga games this season. United has been mentioned in connection with the former Benfica star player.
Ronaldo, his teammate on the Portuguese national soccer team, and United mutually ended their relationship this week after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. He is currently free to sign with any club, with Atleti emerging as a possible frontrunner to sign him.
Even Real Madrid, where he holds the record for most goals scored in a club’s history, has distanced themselves from signing Ronaldo. Bayern Munich has denied any interest in signing Ronaldo, and his mother’s former club, Sporting Lisbon, has also denied any approach from the Bavarians.
Despite the summer’s protests from Atletico’s fans, the club has emerged as a realistic destination for the striker. It’s believed that manager Simeone views the 37-year-old as his ideal signing and would be willing to ignore objections from others in order to make a deal.
A move for Ronaldo would share similarities with the club signing Luis Suarez – the Uruguayan joined from Barcelona in 2020 and subsequently fired Simeone’s side to the league title in his debut season. Speculation persists that Atleti’s manager places a high value on Ronaldo for his mentality and leadership abilities.
