Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Wayne Rooney’s suggestion that Manchester United should move on without him at the conclusion of the season.
Following the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the weekend, Rooney launched a stinging attack on the forward on Monday.
The United star urged for Ronaldo and midfielder Paul Pogba to depart this summer, stating that his comeback has not benefited the team. Later, the Derby manager shared an Instagram photo with Jamie Carragher and presenter David Jones from Monday Night Football.
Ronaldo used the opportunity to respond to Rooney’s criticism of the show by writing: ‘Two Jealous’ in a comment on the post.
Rooney discussed Ronaldo’s influence since his return to England on the show, admitting that the transfer hasn’t paid off for the Red Devils.
When asked if Ronaldo’s return to the Premier League has benefited United, Rooney replied, ‘You’d have to say no.’
‘He’s scored, and he’s scored big goals early in the season in Champions League games.’ Against Tottenham, he scored a hat-trick.
‘However, I believe that if you are looking to the club’s future, you must go with younger, more eager players who will do all in their power to lift Manchester United over the next two or three years.’
Cristiano, on the other hand, is clearly getting on in years. He isn’t the same player he was when he was in his twenties. That’s football, so it happens. He’s a goal threat but I think the rest of the game they need more, they need young, eager players.
‘I believe they have some talented young players.’ Sancho, I believe, will be a better player next year, and Marcus, I believe, will be a better player next year.
‘They have several good young players, and I believe Jesse Lingard should play for them because he gives enthusiasm and talent to the team.’ They have some good young players, like Scott McTominay, who has done well.
‘All they have to do now is gain confidence, believe they are good players, and perform at a higher level, and whoever the new manager is, he will definitely bring in his own players and try to rebuild that group.’
