The Portuguese want out of Old Trafford to play in the Champions League next season, and his request to the club for them to allow him to depart has caused some panic.
Cristiano didn’t show up for the Red Devils’ first pre-season training session under Erik ten Hag
This week’s news of Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to leave Manchester United has shaken the club. The Portuguese want out of Old Trafford to play in the Champions League next season, and his request to the club for them to allow him to depart has caused some panic. Following his request to be sold, Cristiano didn’t show up for the Red Devils’ first pre-season training session under Erik ten Hag, though that was apparently down to family reasons. Now the Daily Mail are reporting that the club are unsure if Cristiano will be with them when they set off for Thailand and Australia on Friday as they kick off their pre-season tour.
Nobody wants a player who isn’t happy
The Sun are saying that Ten Hag has asked the club to resolve the situation as soon as possible, one way or another, so that he can plan his squad for the 2022/23 season, knowing if he’ll be able to call upon Cristiano Ronaldo or not. Cristiano Ronaldo’s possible exit has got a lot of people taking. Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jamie O’Hara and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are just some of the individuals who have commented on the situation publicly of late. “Nobody wants a player who isn’t happy,” the Dutchman told reporters. “Especially of that calibre. You want him to be happy, and if you’re going to work with him, you know you have to build your team around him. If he’s not happy, money doesn’t matter. He can’t be replaced, but the team can be improved in other areas.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was their top scorer last season,” O’Hara told reporters. “He stepped up in big moments for the club. He’s left because they think it’s a sinking ship. They’re a shambles for letting him leave. He carried that team for months. He’s earned the right to say, ‘This isn’t right; the future is not bright with Manchester United; I want to win trophies’.” The first to discuss about the subject were TV pundits and former players Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, who engaged in a Twitter conversation. Carragher commented that Ronaldo did exactly what he thought, which is “scored goals, but make the team worse”. This provoked the Red Devils’ legend to react and sparked a backlash on social media.
