Chennai Super Kings’ all-rounder Moeen Ali has been injured during a practice session ahead of the match against Punjab Kings. Cricinfo has learned that he has an ankle injury and has undergone a scan.
Moeen had suffered the injury on Saturday itself. The franchise is awaiting the result of the scan, only after which the severity of the injury can be said. However, it is clear that he will not be able to play in the next few matches.
However, this week Chennai has to play only two matches. After the match against Punjab on Monday, he is to take the field against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1, almost six days later.
Earlier on April 17, he had landed in the match against Gujarat Titans. On 21 April, Mitchell Santner was fed in his place in the match against Mumbai Indians.
Moeen’s form this year has also not been good. He joined the team late due to visa issues. After this, he could only score 87 runs in the five matches played and did not get any wicket even after bowling eight overs. During this he spent 68 runs.
Chennai is constantly battling with the injury of its players this season. Earlier, two of their main fast bowlers Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries.
In seven matches, his team has won only two matches and is at number 9 out of 10 teams.
