Dan Christian Warns Stephen Eskinazi of Perth Scorchers

A mankad warning has taken place in the Big Bash League after a failed Mankad attempt by Adam Zampa. This time the man in spotlight is Dan Christian.

After warning Perth Scorchers’ player Stephen Eskinazi in the BBL on Sunday night, Dan Christian has become the most recent cricketer to ignite discussion regarding the Mankad’s position in the sport.

Dan Christian believed Englishman Eskinazi was leaving his crease early at the non-end striker’s as he was bowling the second-to-last over for the Sydney Sixers.

Eskinazi had just about managed to get back for three times double run runs on the previous deliveries, which appeared to irk Christian. Before bowling the ball, he stopped mid-delivery stride and turned to notify Eskinazi that he was giving him a warning.

“That’s your warning mate. That’s your warning,” Christian was heard telling to Eskinazi.

Despite the ICC’s recent move to recognise the Mankad as a valid dismissal, the Mankad is still a subject of intense debate in the cricket world. It had previously been included in the official laws of the ICC under the heading “unfair play.”

Now, mankad has become a trend as yesterday, a Pakistani U-19 Women’s team player ran out opposition’s player at non striker’s end.

A few days ago, Adam Zampa attempted to run out Renegades player Tom Rogers at the non-end striker’s, Melbourne Stars captain. However, it didn’t well for Zampa and the uncanny event seemed to fire up Rogers who picked 5 wickets and was a hero for Renegades, defeating Melbourne Stars. Because Zampa had completed his delivery action when he pulled the bails off, the third umpire declared Rogers not out.

Sean Abbott’s bowling helped the Sixers defeat the Scorchers by six runs in the meanwhile, cutting the deficit at the top of the BBL standings to just one point. Eskinazi scored 66 not out from 54 balls as the Scorchers attempted to reach the winning 152, giving his team a chance but the pitch was to sluggish to hit big shots.

However, Abbott emerged as the Sixers’ saviour, taking 3-18 to hold the Scorchers to 7-145. Abbott has taken three wickets for the third game in a row.

Dan Christian also got 2-7 in the one over he bowled, while Hayden Kerr bagged 2-31 and successfully protected 16 runs the Scorchers required from the last over.

As the Sixers batted, Steve Smith made his BBL comeback with a polished 36 off 27 balls. Playing The Test superstar scored four boundaries and two sixes in his first Big Bash game in three seasons.
