Dani Alves wants to give his version of events again.
Allegations Against Dani Alves
Dani Alves, a renowned footballer who has played for Barcelona and Sevilla, was arrested on January 20 on charges of alleged sexual assault against a 23-year-old woman. The incident reportedly occurred at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona on December 30. Alves is set to testify before a judge on April 17 at the request of his defense team.
The 39-year-old athlete remains in custody without bail, and he intends to provide his account of the events once again. His previous statements have changed multiple times as the judicial investigation comes close to completion. The magistrate has granted approval for Alves to testify again, as reported by Cadena SER.
Alves’ Changing Statements
Following his arrest, Dani Alves initially denied the allegations, stating that he was not acquainted with the alleged victim. Subsequently, he revised his statement, acknowledging that he did know the woman, and claimed that she had initiated contact with him in the restroom.
In a third account, the Brazilian footballer admitted to engaging in consensual oral sex with the woman, explaining that his earlier statements were an attempt to protect his marriage. Alves’ legal team later presented a fourth version of events, asserting that their client had consensual sexual intercourse with the accuser.
Victim’s Testimony and Potential Consequences
According to the woman’s testimony, which the investigating judge deems “forceful and persistent,” Dani Alves coerced her into a restroom in a secluded area of the Sutton nightclub on the night of December 30 to 31. If found guilty, Alves could face a prison sentence ranging between four and 12 years.
