Danny Drinkwater made just 12 PL appearances for Chelsea before being sent on a series of loans.

A little about the topic

The English player has apologized to the Blues fans for not living up to expectations as he leaves the club after five nightmarish years. Danny joined the Stamford Bridge team in 2017 from Leicester City, a year after playing a fantastic role in the Foxes’ surprise PL title success. Danny Drinkwater was unable to replicate that form with Chelsea, however, and was sent out on a string of loans to wreck his contract. After spending the 2021-22 season in the Championship with Reading, he has now left the Blues for good on a free transfer.

What did Danny Drinkwater say?

The English midfielder reached out to IG to express his disappointment with how his career at the Blues had gone, lamenting that injuries and the way he was treated at the club held him back. Danny Drinkwater wrote that his time at Chelsea is over… it’s really weird for him to write this. According to Drinkwater, he, the club and the fans are extremely disappointed with the outcome, there is no doubt about it. Injuries, how he was treated, the mistakes Danny made, pitching issues, lack of playing time… the list of excuses could be endless, but he cannot and cannot change what happened.

The Englishman is going to look at positive results over the last five years, he has played with great players, trained with amazing managers, worked with some brilliant staff, met some fantastic people, lived in some beautiful places, traveled the world and won some more silverware. Football is a fantastic sport, but for both sides it was a business move gone wrong, it’s black and white as it is. Danny Drinkwater says he apologizes to the Chelsea fans for how it turned out, that he would love to see him at his best in that jersey doing what he loves.
