Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool player, feels the club has found a ‘long-term’ answer to replacing their storied front three.

Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino have led Liverpool’s front-line for the majority of the last five seasons at Anfield. The trio are all in their 30s, with their current contracts expiring at the end of next season.

Murphy, who played for Liverpool from 1997 to 2004, believes Liverpool have a ‘long-term’ plan in motion, with new signing Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Harvey Elliott all breaking into the first team.

‘You can see it’s a bit of a long-term strategy going on with Liverpool at the moment. Luis Diaz looked fantastic [against Leicester], you’ve got Harvey Elliott on the way back, Curtis Jones is getting back to his best, Ibrahima Konate is young, Jota is scoring goals.’

‘People think Jota is a No 9 now, but these guys play all over the place. He’s on the left, right, across the middle – he’s just got this beautiful knack of sliding into great places.’

‘His goal-to-game ratio is incredible, and his technique is second to none… He’s very calm when he’s near the box”.

‘He was the first player to arrive in Liverpool and start a conversation about how the front three of Firmino, Salah, and Mane might not be the answer for the next five years.’

Jota joined the Reds at the start of last season and has a total of 30 goals in 61 games with the club.

Elliott, who impressed on loan at Blackburn last season, has continued to perform this season despite being sidelined for a long time owing to an ankle injury.

Diaz joined the club for £50 million last month and has already made an impression in games against Cardiff and Leicester.
