Dasun Shanaka Said This After His 88 Balls 108

Sri Lankan cricket captain Dasun Shanaka says that he was able to play a good innings for the team because he successfully followed the basic steps as a batsman. He scored 108 off 88 balls when every other player of fell short of a big score in chase of 374 runs.

The Sri Lanka ODI captain said this after the first ODI match between Sri Lanka and India in Guwahati on Wednesday. Now, the team is prepared to face India in the second ODI at Eden Gardens stadium.

Indian team recorded a 67-run win against Sri Lanka in the first one-day match held at the Bursapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.  Dasun Shanaka, who played an excellent batting match for Sri Lanka, scored an unbeaten 108 runs in 88 balls with 3 sixes and 12 fours. Shanaka and Kasun Rajitha built an unbroken 100-run partnership for the 9th wicket and recorded the second best partnership for the 9th wicket for Sri Lanka. It was second ODI century for the skipper Dasun Shanaka who has been in red hot form in their tour.

Sri Lankan cricket captain Dasun Shanaka expressed his regret that the tasks expected from his bowlers were not fulfilled, and mentioned that the bowlers did not perform according to the plan that was originally built.

“The Indian batsmen got off to a good start. At the same time, they gave a good match. Our bowlers were not able to bowl well. But the Indian bowlers swung the ball well. Bowled well with that swing. Our bowlers had plans. But they could not succeed. I successfully followed the basic steps as a batsman. That’s why I was able to play a good innings,” said Dasun Shanaka.

“We didn’t use changes in the first 10 overs. I think I should bat at the top in T20s, but there is a place where the team needs me,” he said.

The Last Over Drama

In the last over of this match, when Dasun Shanaka was on 98 runs, Indian bowler Mohammad Shami tried to run him out at non striker’s end using mankad method. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma withdraw the appeal and gave Dasun the chance to stay at the wicket, preserving the dignity and sportsmanship of the game.

On the very next two balls left in the over, Shanaka scored a boundary over covers and a big six over long on ending the innings on a high.
