David De Gea is convinced he will stay at United and be Solskjaer’s No.1 despite Dean Henderson being bullish of becoming the first choice at Old Trafford.

David de Gea began his playing career with Atletico Madrid where he rose through the academy system at the club before making his senior debut in 2009. After being Madrid’s first-choice, he helped the team win the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010.

Subsequently, his performance attracted Manchester United’s attention and De Gea joined the club in June 2011 for £18.9m. With over 400 appearances for the club, De Gea has won a Premier League title, FA Cup, a League Cup, three Community Shields, and the UEFA Europa League.

Despite the accolades, the Spaniard seems to be falling out of glory. The 30-year-old De Gea lost his place to Henderson after a dip of form last season. He was called for the Europa League final last month against Villarreal but flopped in the penalty shootout. There has been speculation surrounding the stopper’s future in recent weeks, with various reports claiming either De Gea or Henderson will leave Old Trafford in the upcoming market.

The shot-stopper has not received any indication he will be shown the exit door by United and he, therefore, believes his future still lies at the Theatre of Dreams and that he is still Solskjaer’s No.1.

Intriguingly, Henderson also believes he will eventually be No.1 for United and England. He said, “Yeah, 100 percent”.

“I’ve spoken about this for years. Whether it gets me in trouble speaking about it, whether it holds me back at certain times, it probably does”.

“But at the end of the day it’ll happen one day and I know it’ll happen. So, I’m just going to keep working hard day in day out and my time will come. I’ve just got to be ready for when that time comes”.

De Gea, who is currently with the Spain squad preparing for the summer’s European Championship kept 12 clean sheets in 36 appearances during the 2020/21 season.
