David de Gea Asks to be interviewed so he can apologize for his early gaffe in Manchester United’s disgraceful first half at Brentford, admitting he “cost my side two points.”
David de Gea was to blame for Brentford’s first goal, allowing Josh Dasilva’s shot to slide between his hands and into the net. The Bees would then score three more first-half goals through Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee, and Bryan Mbeumo in a startling 45-minute performance from the visitors.
After the game, the 31-year-old said he cost his team two points and accepted responsibility for his bad performance.
‘I’d like to accept responsibility.’ De Gea stated.
‘I believe I deducted two points from my team.’ It was a bad performance on my part. I believe so. That is something that can happen in football.
‘We should have reacted more quickly, but I should have saved the first shot.’ If I had, the first outcome may have been different. Maybe I should read the game better and kick it farther. We are always trying to play and have the ball.
‘We’re not like the other teams.’ Teams have conceded a goal and then won 5-1. For us, I made a mistake that may have impacted the outcome.’
At the interval, new manager Erik ten Hag rang the changes, withdrawing new acquisition Lisandro Martinez and replacing him with Raphael Varane.
However, they were unable to recover anything from the game, as Brentford comfortably saw out the second half to score a memorable Premier League victory.
De Ge concedes that his club had an unfair advantage in preseason and that the teams around the Red Devils have developed while United has stagnated.
‘It’s too simple to play pre-season when you’re playing for nothing,’ says one player. The Spaniard went on.
‘I need to work as much as I can.’ We stick together as a team and continue to work.’ We can learn a lot from the manager. To be honest, I’m not sure. Teams are improving significantly, but we remain where we are. It was a good preseason, but it was insufficient. We need to play for the badge as well as the club’s sake.’ Manchester United have lost their first two Premier League games after falling to Brighton on the opening weekend of the season.
The club is currently stuck to the bottom of the Premier League, and no United player has scored for the club this season.
United’s next opponent will be Liverpool on Monday Night Football next weekend.
