When it comes to the Manchester United manager’s job, Davis Moyes claims he no longer turns his head as he’s focused in assisting West Ham in their journey to victory.
At Old Trafford, the West Ham manager was only in command for ten months. Some detractors believe he was unfairly criticized, while others believe he was the wrong guy for the post.
In any case, he has resurrected his shattered reputation at West Ham, and he is now solely focused on assisting the Hammers in their quest for victory.
That is why, when the United job is up for grabs again – as it is now – with Erik Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino in the hunt to succeed interim manager Ralf Rangnick, he remains focused.
Moyes pondered, ‘I had my chance.’
‘I didn’t quite achieve what I’d hoped for or achieve the results I’d hoped for. But I believe that was true of many of the managers there, some of whom were truly outstanding.’
‘We’ve moved swiftly at West Ham to be near to that club, so making it two years in a row in Europe would be great. You must have a strategy in place. To get it correct, you’ll need four or five transfer windows. That’s simply my opinion. That is something that most managers require.’
Brentford, today’s Sunday opponents, are another team and manager getting it right, as Thomas Frank startled his Premier League rivals by successfully recruiting ‘comeback child’ Christian Eriksen.
And, according to Moyes, the Danish midfielder could have been playing for West Ham.
‘He was suggested to us and a few clubs about coming back,’ Moyes confirmed, adding that Frank and his player’s Danish connection certainly gave them the upper hand.
‘I think Eriksen is a player that makes a lot of people say, ‘My goodness,’ when they see him. However, I believe that everyone felt more unsure.’
Moyes would rather focus on his own assets, highlighting the underappreciated growth of centre back Craig Dawson, who joined from Watford for about £2 million two years ago.
‘Dawson has provided us with a great deal of stability,’ says the narrator. ‘He’s dependable, he plays most weeks, he practices every day, and he shows up for the games in good shape,’ Moyes continued.
‘He’s brought in a lot of really nice stuff, a lot of pretty basic stuff that you need every now and again.’ You will require centre halves that can head, kick, tackle, and block. There’s a new modern world out there with center halves that pass the ball and play from the back, with a lot of critical passes.
‘In general, I believe it was money well spent from our perspective.’ However, I believe he has improved as well. He’s grasping a lot more information, and he’s typically performing well in the Premier League.’
