Dean Henderson is prepared to stay at United until the end of the season after the back-up goalkeeper was told he couldn’t leave.

The shot stopper has regressed from United’s first-choice option last season to Old Trafford reserve in this campaign due to a combination of coronavirus struggles and David de Gea’s return to form.

This has limited the 24-year-old goalkeeper to just two first-team appearances with De Gea featuring in every top-flight game for the Red Devils so far this term.

And according to reports, Henderson is willing to commit to United until the end of the season at least, even though he looks no closer to usurping De Gea as first-choice shot stopper.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick revealed last week that Henderson held talks with him over the Christmas period about a potential January departure. But the German boss revealed his intention to keep him at the club.

‘A couple of weeks ago he asked me [if he could leave] but I told him I’d rather have him stay until the end of the season,’ Rangnick said.

Henderson’s fall from grace at United has also cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad in the current campaign.

The United goalkeeper was named in the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 squad as the second-choice behind Jordan Pickford but withdrew from the team through injury.

Since then, Aaron Ramsdale sealed a £25million move to Arsenal and has become one of the Premier League and England’s brightest goalkeepers this season.
