Devon Conway: “I have to give credit to MS”, This One For The Future
Chennai Super Kings left-handed opener Devon Conway has credited Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his big innings against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, saying the captain gave him big advice on how to play on this wicket.
Conway’s 49-ball 87 helped Chennai to defeat Delhi by 91 runs to register their biggest win of the season. During his innings, Conway hit six sixes with ease against Kuldeep Yadav who has troubled other batsmen so far.
Chennai Super Kings might be out of the tournament but this one is for the future. Whether you win ot lose, building a great team is always needed and this happens by good mentorship. “I have to give credit to MS, because I got out trying to play the sweep in the last game, and he told me to look to play straight,” the attacking New Zealand batsman told a post-match press conference.
Devon Conway scored an unbeaten 85 and 56 in the previous two matches. He was dismissed in an attempt to sweep off Wanindu Hasaranga’s delivery against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Apart from Dhoni, Conway is also getting a lot of help from former Australia legend and team’s assistant coach Mike Hussey.
It really displays the positivity in team set-up and a great communication. Since his return, Devon Conway has been in amazing form. He gives credit to Stephen Flaming, saying, “It was quite clear from Stephen Fleming that I needed to make sure I was ready for any opportunity that comes my way. I was very fortunate to go back to South Africa and get married as well. It was good to support the guys from the sidelines during that time as well,” Conway added.
When asked about the comparison with Hussey, he said, “I have heard that a few times now, which is quite good. To be compared to one of the greats, Mike Hussey, is pretty special. It feels good to be possibly in that bracket. He has got so much knowledge, so much experience, not only in the IPL but throughout the world. It’s very important for me as a player to continue talking to him and learning from him and keep working hard,”
