Dhoni was the skipper of Team India for almost 12 years between 2007 and 2019. He has also led the Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008.
MSD talked about the young star
MSD is known for his jovial demeanour with teammates outside the field. An example of this was seen during the 2023 IPL season, in which Dhoni had many funny interactions with all-rounder Deepak Chahar. The CSK skipper recently opened up about his relationship with Chahar and jokingly stated that he would never see him mature in his lifetime. During the launch of a Tamil film produced by his production company, Dhoni Entertainment, the former India skipper said, “Deepak Chahar is like a drug—if he is not there, you would think where he is, and if he is around, you will think, why is he here? The good thing is that he is maturing, but it takes time, and that’s the problem. I won’t see him mature in my lifetime”.
Chahar stated how Dhoni works with bowlers
Chahar was part of the IPL-winning Chennai Super Kings, and he recently gave an example of how Dhoni works with the bowlers. In the episode of Breakfast with Champions, he stated that Dhoni once gave him the opportunity to bowl in death overs, and it was the first time for him as they never made him bowl in death overs because it was not needed. Usually Bowlers like Shardul and Bravo used to bowl for death overs, but Bravo suffered an injury in that match, and it was a crucial match.
Chahar stated that he bowled two consecutive beamers and was then reprimanded by Dhoni then. The skipper came up to him and said, “You act like you know everything. Why are you bowling like that?” After this, Chahar thought his career was over. Then he gave 5 runs on the next 5 balls, and after that, Dhoni hugged him in the match.
