Former Indian cricket team captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has recently undergone surgery in Mumbai after leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

Despite battling a heavily strapped left knee throughout the season, Dhoni remained determined not to miss a single game, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the team.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan acknowledged Dhoni’s dedication, stating, “We never asked him things like ‘do you want to play or do you want to sit out.’ If he can’t, he would’ve told us straightaway.”

Viswanathan further expressed his admiration for Dhoni’s leadership and the positive impact he brings to the team. “From that perspective, you have to appreciate him,” he added.

Throughout the IPL season, Dhoni valiantly fought through the pain without complaining. Despite everyone being aware of his knee issue and witnessing his struggles while running, Dhoni never voiced any complaints.

It was only after the final match that he informed the team of his decision to undergo surgery. CSK CEO confirmed, “After the final, he said, ‘okay, I’ll have surgery.’ He’s finished his surgery, he’s quite happy, he’s recovering.”

In the post-final presentation, Dhoni hinted that retiring after winning the IPL title would have been the ideal timing. However, he has made a commitment to return for at least one more season if his body allows.

Despite the physical challenges, Dhoni considers it a “gift” to his fans and is willing to put in the “tough” effort for another nine months. His determination remains unwavering, and he plans to commence his rehabilitation after three weeks of rest following the surgery.

Viswanathan shared Dhoni’s post-surgery plans, saying, “Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over he’ll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab.”

The CSK CEO visited Dhoni in Mumbai after Ruturaj’s wedding, confirming that Dhoni is in a comfortable state and intends to rest for three weeks before starting his rehabilitation. Dhoni has also communicated that he won’t be playing until January-February, keeping the team informed about his progress.

When questioned about any tension between Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, Viswanathan dismissed the rumors. In the previous year, speculations of a strained relationship between the two arose when Jadeja was relieved of his captaincy duties mid-season.

These rumors gained momentum when Jadeja had to leave the camp due to an injury. However, Viswanathan clarified, “He knows what to do, how to go about it, so we aren’t going to ask him ‘what are you going to do, how’ etc.”

He will inform us on his own. Whatever he’s doing, he’ll call first and inform only Mr N Srinivasan, not anyone else. Factually, he’ll be straightforward with him. From him, we’ll get the information that this is what he’s doing. It’s been this way since 2008. That’s how it will continue.”

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s determination and dedication to the game continue to inspire his fans and teammates alike. As he embarks on his rehabilitation journey, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await his return to the field, hopeful for another memorable season led by the iconic captain.
