With the January transfer window gradually coming to an end, Diego Carlos is keen to join Newcastle, who have offered to double his wages on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The player’s agents informed Sevilla that Newcastle have not given up on signing their client

Diego Carlos’ agents arrived in Seville last weekend intending to meet with Sevilla sporting director Monchi to discuss the Brazilian centre-back’s future. With the January transfer window gradually coming to an end, Diego Carlos is keen to join Newcastle, who have offered to double his wages on a four-and-a-half-year deal. As reporters have learned, Diego Carlos’ agents also informed the LaLiga club that Newcastle have not given up on signing their client and are willing to raise their bid to a figure close to 55 million euros, including add-ons. Sevilla don’t want to sell Diego Carlos midway through the season, but they are always open to listening to suitors’ offers. Meanwhile, the Brazilian defender does not want to miss the opportunity to play in the Premier League. He is aware that Newcastle will definitely sign a centre-back in January – whether it’s him or another player.

Sevilla will not be able to retain Carlos’ services

The Magpies have made two offers for Diego Carlos, as Sevilla rejected a 25m euro bid before turning down a 35m euro offer for the 28-year-old defender, whose release clause is set at 75m euros. Sevilla are aware that if Newcastle raise their bid to a figure close to 60m euros, they will not be able to retain Diego Carlos’ services. Such a fee could help the club deal with specific financial issues following their elimination from the Champions League and offer them the opportunity to spend an adequate amount of money to sign a replacement. Feyenoord’s left-footed centre-back Marcos Senesi is one of the players who could potentially replace Diego Carlos. Despite his contract coming to an end in 2023, the Dutch club are asking for around 35m euros to allow him to depart.

Sevilla’s good relationship with his agent, who also represents Erik Lamela, Lucas Ocampos and Gonzalo Montiel, could help the LaLiga Santander club to seal a deal with Feyenoord.
