Diouf claims Mohamed Salah will never get what he deserves because he is African
The Senegalese former footballer is hoping to see Mohamed Salah agree on fresh terms at Anfield, with Real Madrid transfer warnings being raised.
What did Diouf say about Salah?
The Egyptian footballer’s future at Liverpool continues to print a lot of headlines as he is working on a contract until 2023 and El Hadji Diouf has warned the player he will never get the terms he deserves because he is African. The debate over whether the Anfield mascot will stick to the new terms has been raging for some time now, with PL title hopes failing to get an extension deal down the line. El Hadji is hopeful Mohamed – who has scored 153 goals in 239 appearances on Merseyside – will sign a new deal as a move to Real would require him to start from scratch, but he warned the discussions would be difficult.
The former Senegalese international, who struggled to make an impact at Liverpool on the back of a transfer in 2002, told the saga around the present-day Anfield icon that it was clear that Liverpool should accept Mohamed’s demands. According to El Hadji Diouf, if Salah were in place he would have stayed at Liverpool, Mohamed can make more money, he is the club’s best player along with Mane and together they will win many trophies. He is 29 years old and Diouf asks him to play four more years with the Reds. A transfer to Real Madrid would mean he would have to start all over again.
A little about Mohamed Salah
There was talk of Mohamed and his representatives demanding as much as £500,000 a week to put pen to paper in Liverpool – though these reports have been denied. Salah will clearly be looking for a deal that will put him among the highest earners in world football, as one of the best players on the planet, but El Hadji argues African players rarely see their full worth recognized.
El Hadji Diouf added that Mohamed needs to understand that he is African so he will not be treated like Europeans and they will not give him a better contract than the rest. According to Diouf the same thing happened to him when he was in Liverpool, they told him not to go to his country to play with his national team. Mohamed have scored 28 goals in 36 appearances this season, including PL’s Golden Boot-leading 20, and Klopp’s side – who remain in contention for a historic quad in 2022 – will return to action on April 2 with struggling hosts Watford.
