On Saturday, Juventus defeated Empoli 3-2 at Stadio Carlo Castellani thanks to a spectacular double from Serbian attacker Dusan Vlahovic.
Juve took the lead on 32 minutes through a Moise Kean header following a pinpoint cross from Adrien Rabiot, looking to take advantage of both Milan and second-placed Inter Milan missing points before of the match.
The hosts, on the other hand, drew level in just seven minutes. After some shoddy defending from the Juventus backline, Szymon Zurkowski bundled the ball home from the resulting corner.
On the stroke of halftime, Juve regained the lead. Juan Cuadrado found Vlahovic who displayed a lovely pair of heels to turn in the penalty area before blasting past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to put his team back in ahead.
Vlahovic controlled a pass from Alvaro Morata before clipping a superb finish into the net on 66 minutes, extending Juve’s lead even further.
Despite their success on Saturday night, Vlahovic stated that Juve were not looking too far ahead.
‘We came from two draws. So these three points mean a lot. We needed to win tonight, so we did, and now we’re looking forward to the next game [against Fiorentina in the Italian Cup],’ Vlahovic said.
‘It’s all thanks to the team,’ says the author. We can accomplish amazing results if we stick together and stay compact,’ the Serbian attacker continued.
Empoli got back into the game 14 minutes from time via to Andrea La Mantia’s squirming shot into the net.
Fourth-placed Juve held on to a 50-point lead after 27 games, seven points ahead of AC Milan and four behind Napoli in third.
Empoli, who refused to give up throughout the encounter, remain in 13th place, with no wins in their last ten league games.
