Edouard Mendy admitted that he does not count blank slates while talking about the importance of strong team dynamics in relation to the art of defense.

The goalkeeper is as important as defender

Edouard has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most trusted goalkeepers since joining Chelsea from Rennes for £ 22m last summer. The 29-year-old has recorded 22 lockouts in his first 38 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, but refuses to take sole credit for their defensive prowess. Edouard Mendy said that he knows that he has done a lot of blank sheets, but he does not count them, and that is because it is not something that he does on his own. The goalkeeper is as important as the guy in front of him. In the end, it is he who has to make the stops, yes, but in front of him there is a whole structure, ten players who move and complicate the opponent’s task. This is the performance of the team, not something he can own on his own.

Edouard Mendy knew about Chelsea’s intentions

Edouard went on to reveal that he was initially aware of Chelsea’s interest in his services during the coronavirus lockdown last season, before revealing how he settled in life on Stamford Bridge. During a separate interview, he also said that in March 2020, he did hear about Chelsea’s intentions. According to him, the idea was that if there was a goalkeeper’s move in the summer, he was on the list. It has been a long process since it only ended in September, but at the end of the day, he is where he wanted to be and he thinks Rennes had a good return on their investment, Chelsea are happy and therefore everyone is happy. The fact is that between the goalkeeping coach Chelsea Petr Cech, Christophe Lollichon, the staff, Frank Lampard and the advice of the French-speaking players, he was quickly put in a relaxed position and they left.
