Eight State Cricket Boards Request BCCI to Reconsider Cancelling Ranji Trophy- Report
As per a report in The New Indian Express, as many as eight state boards have made requests to the BCCI to reconsider its decision to cancel the Ranji Trophy season.
BCCI has cancelled Ranji Trophy
Earlier this month, BCCI decided to cancel the Ranji Trophy season for the second consecutive edition after witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
However, as per the latest developments, the Board is likely to resume the Ranji Trophy season but only after looking at the current Covid-19 situation. Also, one more concern is the window available to conduct the tournament.
Generally, it takes around 75 days to complete a Ranji season. And, given the fact that BCCI is likely to start the 2022 edition of IPL from the last week of March, conducting an entire Ranji season might not be possible.
Also, keeping in mind all the preparations concerning the quarantine and bio-bubble requirements, the Board will to start preparing by the third week of March. Thus, it becomes seemingly impossible to conduct the entire Ranji Trophy season.
Keeping in mind the current circumstances, chances are less than the Board would resume the Ranji Trophy season.
As far as the IPL 2022 is concerned, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to conduct the mega auctions on 12 and 13th February 2022. The Mega-Auctions is most likely to be conducted in Bangalore. Besides, the Board is planning to start to the tournament on 27th March.
The BCCI is trying its best to conduct the tournament in India. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Africa have been chosen as backup venues in case the tournament doesn’t happen in India.
