Pjanic is curious to play El Clasico
El Clásico is the next football game Miralem Pjanic can tick off on his career bucket list. The former Roma and Juventus midfielder could make his debut for Barcelona on Saturday. The Bosnia international made his first start for his new club against Ferencváros on Tuesday, but there is yet to make Ronald Koeman’s XI in LaLiga this season. “El Clásico is special, but I have already played in a Roma-Lazio derby; they are great opponents. Juve Inter is also Derby d’Italia,” Pjanic told journalists. “I played an excellent derby and great games. I am curious and I want to know what it is like to play a Clásico. Being able to play Clasico is what every player dreams of. It is the biggest game in football. I am happy to be here, to play and hope that we can win.
“I’ve watched it on TV so far. I remember the great win at home – the 5-0 in 2010 with Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho. It was amazing to see the Barcelona squad play. 6-2 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu were also special because playing away from home is never easy.” It won’t be the first time Pjanic has come up against Real Madrid, albeit, having first faced them as a Lyon player. During the second leg of the last 16 tie in the 2009/10 Champions League, the midfielder scored a crucial away goal at the Bernabeu to send Lyon through the quarterfinals. “I was very young; 19 years old. We played against a great Madrid side, with great players, and we beat them and knocked them out, and I scored,” Pjanic recalled.
“It was special to me and it was a great feeling to score at the Bernabeu. It was when many people first heard of me.”
