The new Test captain of England has been announced. The England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed Ben Stokes as the captain of the Test team. Joe Root recently stepped down as the captain of the Test team.
Root was under pressure to quit the captaincy after a poor performance. After the crushing defeat in Australia, many questions were raised about former captain Joe Root. Joe Root will be the 81st captain of the England men’s Test team.
England men’s cricket managing director Rob Key said: “I had no hesitation in offering Ben the role of Test captain. He embodies the mindset and vision that we want to take this team forward in the next era of red-ball cricket.
I’m glad he accepted, and that he’s ready for the added responsibility and respect. 31-year-old Ben Stokes made his Test debut in 2013 and has played 79 matches so far.

Ben Stokes has played 79 Tests so far. His average is 35.89. He has taken 174 wickets in Tests. Root has announced to step down as the captain of the Test team after the humiliating defeats against Australia and West Indies.
Joe Root captained England in 64 Test matches, winning 27 and losing 26 matches. Joe Root scored more than five thousand runs as captain. In which 26 half-centuries and 14 centuries are included.
