In the Ashes series, Joe Root failed to make an extraordinary mark. However, he scored 3 half-centuries but went in vain as England lost the series.
Therefore, the English team had to face a 0-4 defeat in the 5 match Test series. Root has not started positively with the bat on the Windies tour as well. He was dismissed after scoring just 13 runs in the first innings of the first Test.
The England Test team, captained by Joe Root, is currently on a tour of the West Indies. The first Test match of the series is being played between the two teams from Tuesday (March 8) at the Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Batting first, the English team had scored 268 runs for 6 wickets till the end of the first day’s play.
Jonny Bairstow is unbeaten on 109, while Chris Woakes has 24 runs at the first-day stumps. Root lost his wicket while trying to release the short of length delivery of pacer Kemar Roach. He didn’t offer any shot on an inswinging delivery that clipped off the off stump bails.
Root felt that the ball would go over the wicket, so he went on the back foot and tried to cover only the stumps. Right-handed batsman Root scored only 13 runs in 14 balls with the help of 3 fours.
The English team, who decided to bat after winning the toss, had a very poor start. Half of his team had returned to the pavilion with a total score of 115 runs. After this Jonny Bairstow took over the innings.
Bairstow shared a 67-run partnership with Ben Stokes for the 5th wicket and 99 runs for the 6th wicket with Ben Foakes. Bairstow has a 54-run partnership for the 7th wicket with Chris Woakes.
Opener Alex Lees was dismissed for 4 runs, while Jack Crawley was caught by Jaden Silva at the hands of Joshua de Silva on a personal score of 8 runs. Daniel Lawrence was dismissed as the fourth wicket, caught by Blackwood off Jason Holder. Lawrence scored 20 runs.
Ben Stokes scored 36 runs in 95 balls, while Ben Foakes was dismissed after scoring 42 runs in 87 balls. Roach, Sills and Holder have so far taken 2-2 wickets for the Windies.
