England got what they needed so did the New Zealand. The debutant Matthew Potts has his own role to play and what a dreamy beginning of career he is having. What can we say about James Anderson! Jimmy Jimmy fine as a old wine. Surely, he has lot to say about his comeback and red cherry in his hands kept doing what the magician intended to do. For New Zealand, the story gone wrong. Unprepared and hastened batting order kept losing wickets after winning a impactful toss.
New Zealand 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 7 …. 6 for 36, what a failure of cricketing sense. Despair for New Zealand in the dawn of match and pride, joy and enthusiasm for English players as well as fans in the ground. The catch that Jonny Bairstow took was as sublime as it could be on lord’s in the first match of English. A uplifting beat that sets the tone for whole match but unfortunately second innings was only fruitful for England til the score of 59. From thereon, it looked that New Zealand have transferred their batting soul in English team and English team have transferred their balling soul in the New Zealand pacemen.
Opportunity lost be Ollie Pope once again as the team has kept their strength in the middle order batsman but he has failed to deliver so. Now, let’s have a word about how the captains of both teams made their mark in the play. No less than troubling day for Kane Williamson but as the sun went down, a feeling of cheer and smile was on his face. Before the conclusion of the second innings, New Zealand outsparked by England and certainly they didn’t feel that they were in the game at all. A belief that will cherish their bowling attack to go for another day.
Coming to Ben Stokes, he didn’t set a foot wrong. As Matthew Potts, after having a remarkable debut, had to leave the game, it was Ben Stokes who took the ball in hand and celebration doesn’t stay away from him for a long time. Second over, bang! Trent Boult chipped a shot in the air, caught by Ollie Pope. The new captain did the job in the very first complete over.
