England take five wickets in the final session to see New Zealand close day four on 224-7, leading by 238 heading into final day. They couldn’t stand longer on day 5 as Daryl Mitchell gave his best a equally poised game. Needing 299 runs in 72 overs on day 5 is not an everyday job but England did it amazingly well.
Once England were 3 for 56 and it looked that New Zealand will have a chance to press on and pluck a couple of more wickets to push England completely. However, Jonny Bairstow had other plans who played an inning of his lifetime to win a remarkable test match.
Jonny Bairstow blasted a match-winning 136 from 92 balls to lead England to a remarkable five-wicket, second test victory over New Zealand on Tuesday, clinching the three-test series.
