England vs West Indies Day 3 Highlights: West Indies Gains 63 Runs Lead, Injury For Mark Wood and More
West Indies have taken a lead of 62 runs till the end of the third day’s play of the first Test between West Indies and England. In response to England’s 311 runs in the first innings, West Indies have scored 373/9 in the first innings.
However, the scoring rate has been quite slow. In 90.1 overs, only 171 runs were scored on day 3. At the end of the third day’s play, Veerasamy Permall (26*) and Jaden Seals (0*) remained at the crease. As it looks, England would prefer to wrap up the West Indies innings within the first 2 overs.
Jason Holder, who remained not-out on 43 on the second day, was dismissed early on the third day after adding only two runs to his score. Holder was caught out by Ben Stokes.
After this, Nkumrah Bonner, who remained unbeaten on 34, took the innings forward and shared a very important 73-run partnership with wicketkeeper Joshua de Silva (32) for the sixth wicket.
The 33-year-old Bonner batted well with one end and scored the second Test century of his career. He was dismissed for the ninth wicket after playing an innings of 123 runs in 355 balls.
This has become his highest score in the test. Lower down the order, he added 44 for the eighth wicket with Kemar Roach (15) and 46 for the ninth wicket with Peromal.
Jack Leach has bowled 43 overs for England, but he has got only one wicket. Craig Overton and Stokes have taken two wickets each.
Chris Woakes has got only one wicket after bowling 30 overs. Mark Wood is out with an injury after bowling 17 overs. Part-timers like Daniel Lawrence has also bagged a wicket.
Despite batting all day, West Indies scored only 170 runs and England got only five wickets. West Indies have a stronghold on the match, but now all three results are open. The pitch has been challenging for both sides but it is also rewarding if worked sensibly.
