The first test match played between West Indies and England in Antigua has ended in a draw. England, declaring their second innings at 349/6 on the last day, set a target of 286 runs for the win against West Indies.

In reply, West Indies scored 147/4 and the match ended in a draw. Nkrumah Bonner, who batted well in both the innings, was adjudged the player of the match.

England batted first and scored 311 runs in the first innings. After a shaky start, Jonny Bairstow took control and scored 140 runs. Jaden Seals bagged four wickets.

West Indies scored 375 runs in the first innings in which Bonner scored most runs (123). England declared the second innings at 349/6.

In the second innings, opener Jack Crawley (121) and captain Joe Root (109) made significant contributions. In reply, West Indies batted 70.1 overs and kept the defence strong which pushed the match towards a draw.

Joe Root, who scored the 24th century of his Test career, has made some records in his name. He has become the English batsman with the most centuries as captain. This was Root’s 13th century as captain and he surpassed Alastair Cook (12).

Root has completed his 1,000 runs against the West Indies. He now has 1,055 runs in 12 Tests against the Caribbean team at an average of 57.22.

Bairstow pulled England out of trouble after England lost early wickets in the first innings. Bairstow scored his eighth century of his career, playing a brilliant innings of 140 runs in 259 balls.

Bairstow, who has scored 4,730 runs in 81 Tests, has overtaken Alan Lumb (4,656) in Test runs for England. Bairstow remained unbeaten on 15 in the second innings.

The 33-year-old Bonner batted well with one end in the first innings and scored the second Test century of his career. He was dismissed as the ninth wicket after scoring 123 runs in 355 balls.

This has become his highest score in the test. In the second innings, he remained unbeaten on 38 off 138 balls and drew the match.
