Erik ten Hag is open to playing for another team in goalkeeping as De Gea’s Lucrative deal with Manchester is set to expire in the summer.
David de Gea’s future at Manchester United is still up in the air, and the club is giving serious thought to the many courses of action they may take going forward.
The Spanish player’s current deal is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign but the club has the option to extend it for an additional year if they so choose. However, despite rumours claiming that the goalie will need to take a significant wage reduction in order for him to remain, no decision has been taken as of yet.
Back in October, Ten Hag expressed his satisfaction with David De Gea’s performance in goalkeeping by saying, “We didn’t make a decision on him, but what I can say is that I am incredibly delighted with David De Gea as a keeper.” Tom Heaton and Martin Dubravka, who was signed in the summer, serve as De Gea’s understudies at Old Trafford. De Gea continues to be the No. 1 goalkeeper for the club.
Diogo Costa, who plays for Porto, has been mentioned as a possibility, and the Portuguese press has speculated that a record transfer fee could be paid in order to capture the goalkeeper’s services.
However, Dean Henderson is likely to make his comeback during the summer, which will provide Ten Hag with a legitimate rival for the No. 1 position. The goalkeeper had become dissatisfied with his playing time under the previous management in Manchester and decided to leave the club on loan in order to get more playing time elsewhere.
Ten Hag has been keeping an eye on the Englishman and has been very complimentary about the opportunities that lie ahead for him. “We will make a decision throughout the season, toward the tail end of the season, and that choice will be based on a number of different considerations. During an interview earlier this year, Henderson was candid about the problems he was having with Manchester. He admitted that he wanted to leave the club, even if it was just on loan, before Ten Hag got the chance to evaluate him. He was afraid that the United manager would block any move away from the club.
However, Ten Hag could decide to cash in on the Englishman in order to raise funds, as United are one of several clubs that are interested in Jordan Pickford, whose position at Everton is still up in the air. According to the Daily Mail, it appeared that negotiations regarding his contract had come to a standstill, and the goalie had not been presented with a firm offer.
Pickford maintained his position as England’s first choice goalkeeper, and as a result of his predicament, United, Tottenham, and Chelsea are all mulling over making a bid for him. Since the goalie and his family already have a home in Cheshire, they would not have to look for a new place to live if he were to switch from playing at Goodison Park to Old Trafford.
After barely avoiding relegation in the previous season, Everton is at risk of being involved in another fight to avoid it. There is no question that Pickford would be thrilled to make the switch to one of the top four clubs in the league, which would provide him his first opportunity to compete in the Champions League.
