A trophyless stretch of six years is “too long,” according to Erik ten Hag, who is speaking in advance of United’s EFL Cup semi-final match against Nottingham Forest.

United has not won a trophy since Jose Mourinho took over as manager in 2017, when they won the Europa League. Since then, the club has advanced to two finals and four semi-finals. Ten Hag is seeking to put an end to that skid, which is United’s worst since their winless stretch between 1977 and 1983.

According to Ten Hag, who has won several trophies throughout his career, “Winning a trophy is the best feeling you can have, and I have had the luck in my career to win some trophies, and it’s magnificent, especially for the fans.”

“It’s so amazing, and I think the fans in this area, especially the more seasoned ones, have some experience with that,” she said. It has been far too long ago for Manchester United to have won any trophies during this time period, and they did not. That is a truth that is not lost on us, and we will have to carry out the procedure once more.

It’s all about taking home trophies, therefore we have a strong chance of doing so, but we have to take things one game at a time. Now that we play Nottingham Forest over two legs, the first leg is where your attention should be focused. I try not to think too far ahead since doing so will divert my attention from the task at hand, which is to win the game tomorrow.

It’s been a very long time since United played at Nottingham Forest (the last time was in 1999, when United triumphed 8-1). However, I believe that this is something that we enjoy, as it is rewarding to perform in front of a devoted audience. It will be a positive environment, and I believe that it will motivate the players; thus, we need to ensure that we are prepared for it. We are not currently successful because trophies are not typically awarded in the month of January. You have a chance to win one in February, so we need to work toward that goal and make it a priority. It is more important to get into the appropriate positions in April so that you may compete for trophies.

Ten Hag stated that he and his players had already gotten over the disappointment of United’s loss to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, which ended with Arsenal winning 3-2.

Ten Hag shared that they had moved on and that they had come to the appropriate conclusions. “Therefore, we need to move forward and do it fast because we have a significant game tomorrow, and we need to concentrate on that,”
