Despite significant concerns regarding his health, Erling Haaland has made the trip to Arsenal with the rest of the Man City squad in preparation for their crucial Premier League matchup with the Gunners.
After receiving a knock to his ankle during the first half of Pep Guardiola’s team’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, the Haaland was taken out of the game and replaced by a substitute. After the game was over, Pep Guardiola explained that his team had made the switch out of an abundance of caution, particularly in light of the fact that their decisive match against the Arsenal was just a few days away.
“He took a significant blow, and he was in a lot of pain,” Guardiola added. We didn’t want to take any chances, so we’ll watch how he goes over the next several days and decide what to do.”
Even before Wednesday’s match at the Emirates Stadium, Guardiola was uncertain about whether or not he would be able to call on his first-choice striker for the championship fight. During his news conference, he shared the following statement: “We will train this afternoon [on Tuesday]. At this time, I do not know [whether or not Haaland would be suitable].
“Yesterday was all about getting back on track after the loss to Aston Villa. That wraps things up.
Although it is not yet known whether the striker will be able to participate in the game, the fact that he traveled to London with the rest of the City squad is a very positive sign for the team’s chances. In preparation for the match on Wednesday, he is currently traveling to the capital on the same train as his colleagues.
Should he be given the opportunity, Haaland will be eager to improve upon his already stellar record in the Premier League. In what has been an incredible debut season for City, the 22-year-old forward has scored 25 goals despite playing in only 21 league games.
However, he has failed to score in either of his most recent two league matches, and if he were to go another game without finding the back of the net for Man City, it would be his worst drought in the league since April of last year, when he went a full five matches without scoring for Dortmund.
In the days leading up to the match between Arsenal and Manchester City, there have been rumors circulating that Haaland is detrimental to the performance of his team.
The contest that will take place at the Emirates Stadium is an important one since it will likely have a significant impact on where the Premier League championship will be awarded at the season’s finish. If Arsenal were to come out on top in this match, they would increase their lead at the top of the league to six points while still having a game in hand.
