The 19-year-old Kean emerged as one of Europe’s top young attacking talents in Serie A last season.

Moise Kean became the radar of the well-connected Brands for 18 months. Everton made plans for a loan deal in January, a window the Dutchmen does not wish to get involved with unless the player or the circumstances are special. Kean was an exception.

Juventus, with Serie A and Champions League commitments, was not receptive to any  deal. In the remaining months of the season, Kean’s profile drastically rose on his strength of performance. Sadly, the superstar faced racist abuse in Cagliari in April during Juventus’ game.

This created a lot of concerns behind the scene at Goodison. Kean’s move which was at the forefront of Brands’ plan became difficult. In March, the brilliant superstar made his first start for the national side scoring in a Euro 2020 qualifier which Italy won 2-0 against Finland. The goal meant he became his country’s youngest goalscorer at 19 and 23 days old, since Bruno Nicole in 1958.

Everton remained convinced that a deal could be done.

Everton’s chairman Bill Kenwright and Brands have a good working relationship along with Mino Raiola, Kean’s representative. Changing of the guard at Juventus opened the door for a move.

Sarri replaced Allegria who was a mentor to the young star. Sarri’s personal favorite Gonzalo Higuan returned to Juve after a loan spell at Chelsea and AC Milan. Kean went down the pecking order.

“The story of Kean surprised a lot of people in Italy because at the end of last season he was very good. He scored for Juventus and Italy as well. But with Sarri and Allegri departure, a lot of things changed in Juventus. The superstar had to move.” Said Stefano Boldrini.

Everton took advantage of the situation and demanded instant results rather than count on the many works in the progress such as Kean. Juventus as well needed to recoup money after heavy outlay on salaries and fees of its players like Ronaldo, Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax and Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal.

Raiola who negotiated De Ligt deal regarded Everton as the ideal club for Kean to get regular football. This enabled Everton to strike a deal which resembles a bargain at £27m.

The end flourish was added when Everton sealed the deal without the buy-back clause Juventus would have preferred.
