Fans Slam ‘criminal’ Omission of Son Heung-min in PFA Team of the Year
Fans criticize the removal of Tottenham star Son Heung- min from the PFA Team of the Year Football
Despite finishing as the Premier League’s equal top goalscorer with Mohamed Salah, Son was not included in the team, which was unveiled during a virtual awards event on Thursday.
The South Korean and Salah both scored 23 goals, but Son was left out of the divisional XI, which was chosen by the players.
Salah, Sadio Mane, and Cristiano Ronaldo were chosen ahead of Son, a contentious decision given Manchester United’s poor season.
‘No Son in this squad is a criminal,’ one fan said on social media, while another called Son’s exclusion a ‘disgrace.’
‘Ronaldo and Mane over Son?’ said another, while another simply queried, ‘Where’s Son?’
Another Twitter user said, ‘Son got the golden boot with 0 penalties ffs.’
Following his inability to make the Premier League Team of the Year, Son has been dubbed “one of the most underestimated players in the league.”
Others questioned the omission of Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who was replaced by Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara.
‘How the heck has Rodri not made the team,’ one Twitter user wondered, while another said Thiago was ‘nowhere near’ the City midfielder’s level last season.
‘Did Liverpool win the league?’ a mocking social media account wondered.
On the final day, City were named champions after edging Liverpool by a point. Long before the season concluded, the PFA voting was closed.
