Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has enlightened Chelsea on Mason Mount and what they are yet to pick up on.

Ferdinand says this after another Mount’s stellar display that earned the blues crucial away win. As a result, Ferdinand has heaped lots of praise to England’s midfielder after the champions league match.

“He’s a manager’s dream,” he said. “Not only does he have this natural ability and he affects the game in the final third.

He added, “The imagination to take that on his back foot on the blind side of the defender, then the ability to finish. Not only has he got all of that, he’s a manager’s dream because he does the tactics to a tee off the ball.”

“In that difficult spell just before they changed the manager when nobody was playing well, he stood up, so he’s a leader as well.”

Ferdinand also said that Mount could get a lot better if his teammates spotted the runs he makes.

“What I like about him is his movement off the ball to get on the ball. “I think once the other players start realizing he actually makes movements to get beyond the defenders on the other team and start playing that ball, a little bit longer than a 10-yard to feet, he’ll get more opportunities at goal.

“He made runs today that nobody had seen and he was in if they played the ball forward,” Ferdinand added:

Meanwhile, Mount’s clever turn and fine first-half finish relieved Thomas Tuchel after his Premier League heavy defeat. Chelsea were able to bounce back to their winning ways after the West Brom Saturday5-2 loss.

Mount was on the score sheet on Wednesday night to ease Tuchel pressure and his effort was noticed by his coach.

“The finish was clinical and excellent from Mason,” Chelsea’s boss said.

“He has the quality to do this. And to do it in a quarter-final is a big step for him and a big help for the team.

“He is a very important player for our squad at a young age. The first goal was very important for us,” Tuchel continued.

“It came in a moment after which we had suffered a lot. The team was too tense. We lacked the freedom. Our game was a bit static,” he added.
