Ferran Torres, 21, is on the verge of completing a big money move to the Camp Nou.
A little about Ferran Torres
The Spanish national team player is set to undergo a medical examination in Barcelona ahead of his € 55 million transfer from Man City. Ferran Torres’ 16-month stint at Eithad Stadium is drawing to a close as Man City reached an agreement with Barca for a permanent transfer last week. Spanish footballer Ferran Torres is ready to sign a long-term contract for Camp Nou after deciding to return to his home country, where he initially began his career in Valencia.
Today’s situation
Spain’s Ferran Torres will complete a medical check-up at the Giants’ league training ground on Monday and, all well, will be officially announced as a Barça player later that day. The club hosted the 21-year-old’s first press conference and presentation at their home court on Tuesday. Ferran Torres will not be eligible to play for Barça until the January transfer window opens, but may come when they resume their internal campaign against Mallorca.
Reduced salary during the first months
Barça laid out record debts at the end of last fiscal year and had to unload a number of high-profile players in the summer in order to lower their payroll. Club legends Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi left, along with the likes of Emerson Royal and Junior Firpo, while the club had to scour the free agent market to sign reinforcements.
Barça managed to stay afloat thanks in part to a half-billion loan from investment bank Goldman Sachs, which helped finance the move for Torres. The club still exceeds La Liga wage limits for the time being, but Sergio Aguero’s health-related retirement has helped cut that debt, and Ferran Torres will be on a reduced wage for the first few months of his Camp Nou career.
