Tammy Abraham has been in good form for the Serie A side since following Fikayo Tomori around the club in Italy last summer.
What did Fikayo Tomori say?
Milan player Tomori says he encouraged former Chelsea teammate Tammy Abraham to join Roma last summer. The striker has flourished in Serie A since being traded from London to the Italian capital last summer, scoring 23 goals in 40 appearances. He followed the path of Fikayo’s by moving to Italy as the centre-back joined Milan on loan in January 2021 before making the move permanent in the summer.
Fikayo Tomori says he had a hand in Tammy Abraham’s decision to move overseas, saying that when Tammy said Roma was on the table, he said Bro, it’s a good league. According to Tomori he felt that it would develop his game a lot. Tammy Abraham has scored many goals this season for Roma, they are in contention for a place in the Champions League. It definitely helped him and definitely Fikayo Tomori gave him rave reviews for Serie A because he enjoyed himself so much for the first six months.
Tomori’s take on Italian football
Since his arrival in Italy, Fikayo has noticed some big differences between football in Serie A and how the game is played in PL. Fikayo Tomori said that in England it’s more like basketball. Everything is transparent, there is more intensity, much more happens reactively. In Italy, it’s more like American football. It’s like you have plays. When the ball is here, Tomori must be there. When the ball goes, Tomori knows to be two meters in that direction, or to look for that particular player.
In England it’s very far from the cuff and everything happens so fast. they can charge for one minute and the next time the ball rolls over their head and they have to run back 30 yards and then they’re on the attack again. According to Fikayo Tomori it looks more like OK, the ball is where his teammate is? Where is the opposition? If the ball goes over, he needs to be in a position where he can leave the attacker and get there, but if the ball gets to his feet, Tomori is in position to go press.
