Fiorentina have confirmed the acquisition of Real Madrid reject Luka Jovic on a free transfer just hours after he underwent a medical at the club.
As he landed in Florence on Friday afternoon for his medical, Jovic was all smiles as he prepared to put his Real Madrid nightmare behind him.
Jovic moved to Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt for £62 million three years ago but failed to make an impression, netting only three goals in 51 games.
Friday evening, Fiorentina announced on their official social media channels that they have signed Jovic for the 2022-2023 season.
Real Madrid also issued a statement that said, ‘Real Madrid C. F. and ACF Fiorentina have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Luka Jovic.
Our team would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication during his tenure at Real Madrid, where he won one Champions League, two LaLiga championships, and two Spanish Super Cups.
Real Madrid wishes him and his family well in this new chapter of his life, the statement continued.
Fiorentina has agreed to sign Jovic on a permanent basis following Real Madrid’s decision to part ways with the 24-year-old.
The two clubs explored a possible loan agreement for Jovic, but Real was eager to send Jovic on and instead negotiated a 50% sell-on option.
Jovic is likely to replace Arthur Cabral in La Viola’s starting lineup, with fans excited to see what their new acquisition can do.
Jovic will hope to assist Fiorentina in improving upon their seventh-place result during the 2021-2022 season.
