It’s been a complicated year for Real Madrid and one which ended trophyless, something that a club like this certainly isn’t used to.

Necessary changes

A rebuild is now underway in the Spanish capital, with those in charge well aware that changes were needed at the club, even if some were somewhat traumatic. The first big change was the departure of Zinedine Zidane, which was followed by Sergio Ramos also leaving the club. The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti may be a blast from the past, but the Italian will bring simplicity and is well respected around the club.

Florentino Perez got to work weeks ago and everything he’s doing is an attempt to get the Real Madrid supporters excited again after a hard season. He knows that something that will certainly fill the fans with excitement is the arrival of Kylian Mbappe – he’s working on that one.

New season will be interesting

The start of the last campaign was difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Zidane wasn’t ready to put his trust in players like Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez or Dani Ceballos. New signings also didn’t come through the door due to financial difficulties and the team started on the back foot. A lack of new faces and motivation saw the side struggle in the early parts of the season, and although things did improve the doubts were already there. The side was plagued by absentees and the Ramos saga started at the turn of the year. Zidane’s side did end up fighting for the Champions League and LaLiga Santander trophies right until the end, but it wasn’t enough. Carlo Ancelotti admitted that he wants to play attacking football. He may ask Gareth Bale to return to Madrid and play for Madrid again. Welsh player may consider a big come-back in Madrid and play with the team again.
