There was always a debate on who was the better batsman between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, but now a new chapter has been added to the debate because of the rise of 23-year-old youngster Shubman Gill, who has shown amazing class in the past few months. Whether it was a test, ODI, or T20, Gill scored centuries in all three formats and was also unstoppable in this year’s IPL edition.

Gill’s double hundred in the ODI against New Zealand amazed everyone. This year has really been special for him, and now he is all set to play in the World Test final against Australia, which starts June 7. As Gill is now included in the best batsman debate, a former Indian batsman recently compared him to Sachin and reminisced about Kohli’s bizarre 2014 England tour.

As Gill started this year in great form, making centuries for team India in all formats, it was claimed that he is most likely to become Virat Kohli’s successor. But after his sensational performance in IPL 2023, when he came close to surpassing Kohli’s epic 2016 record for highest runs with his haul of 890 runs in 17 innings, which earned him the orange cap, he is also being compared to Sachin Tendulkar now.

Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif recently said in an interview that Gill’s batting is similar, or rather, as flawless as Sachin’s, compared to Kohli’s, who still has a few weaknesses. While explaining Kohli’s weakness, Kaif pointed out his 2014 tour of England, where he was out of form. Kaif said, “James Anderson troubled him a lot, and he was always dismissed by him whenever the bowl was outside the off stump.
Kaif further said, “I think Gill’s technique is similar to Sachin Tendulkar’s.” At the moment, it is very difficult to get him out. There has been no weakness in his game. Virat and Sachin are both legends, and I have played with both of them, but Kohli still has his weaknesses. In terms of technique and mental strength, Gill is on a great path to becoming as great as Sachin”.
Since the Under-19 World Cup final, the World Championship final will be Shubman Gill’s biggest match. He made back-to-back centuries in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, and now fans all over India will again expect something big from the rising star.
