Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t been in good form in 2023, and this anguish continued in the World Championship final as well, where India lost to Australia at The Oval Stadium. In the first innings, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 15 runs, and in the second innings, he reached 43 runs but failed to convert this half century. Even in IPL 2023, Rohit had poor form and could only manage 332 runs for his team in 16 matches with an average of 20.75 that included only two half centuries.

Recently, in an interview, former South African captain Graeme Smith talked about the Indian skipper and said that the veteran batsman just needs to freshen up. He said, “One of the biggest challenges a captain faces is their own individual performances because the pressure is always constant. Rohit probably needs to refresh because his own form hasn’t been consistent. If we see the IPL, then it has been several years, and now with the WTC final, he is definitely having a rough patch, and individual performance can only settle things.

The 42-year-old also believes that there is no need to criticize Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, but it is his individual form that has been questioned. if he can get some good scores in matches, then this will take a lot of pressure off “.
After India lost the World Test Championship final against Australia, social media was flooded with a lot of criticism, and many users slammed Rohit Sharma for his captaincy and asked for a change in Indian cricket, but the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly defended him and coach Rahul Dravid too, saying currently they both are right for the team, and with the World Cup 2023 coming up, this duo would be best, and the replacement calls shouldn’t be taken just because of social media opinions.

India will be touring the West Indies in July and will play their first test starting July 12. If skipper Rohit Sharma is rested then, we can see youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal as the opener for India in the Test series.
There have been reports that a few senior players will be dropped for the upcoming test series and youngsters will be given opportunities. Meanwhile, Rohit would also work on his form and come up with a better show in the Asia Cup in 2023. Before the West Indies, India will have an ODI and T20 series against Afghanistan starting July 23, where Hardik Pandya will be leading the team and players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be given a break.
