As a coach, Frank Lampard played against Jose Mourinho for the third time and won his third. His Chelsea beat Tottenham, and Frank’s Chelsea became the first team to win vs. Jose Mourinho’s side in both home and away matches of the season (in all championships).

The 1st Half

Chelsea started the first half with an active pressing.

Tottenham Hotspur earned the first two corners, and almost managed to transform the second one into a goal. Though Chelsea returned their advantage and soon they scored the opener.

At the 15th minute, Olivier Giroud was in the right place when he got to the rebound inside the box and sent the ball inside the right side of the net. It became 1:0.

Since Chelsea opened the score, Tottenham became more active and created several impressive attempts. But they could not cause any serious threat to Chelsea.

The Second Half

After just three minutes from the break, Chelsea scored again! This time, Marcos Alonso was teed up on the edge of the box by Ross Barkley and shot into the bottom right corner of the net, leaving Tottenham’s goalkeeper without a chance. The score became 2:0.

Since Chelsea scored the second goal, they became calmer and less mobilized. They also started to make mistakes. But Tottenham Hotspur were still unable to use those mistakes for their benefit. Surprisingly, Jose Mourinho did not make any risky decisions to save the game.

Noteworthy, that if Spurs lost today’s match with a handicap, they would give Sheffield and Manchester United chances to pass them in case if they managed to achieve victories against their rivals.

The match was almost ended with a logical 2-0 Chelsea victory when Tottenham Hotspur managed to organize an impressive attack at the 89th minute. Serge Aurier sent a teasing cross into the area. But Caballero intercepted the ball, and Chelsea was almost safe when Antonio Rudiger unluckily beat his own goalkeeper, and the match finished with Chelsea’s 2:1 victory.

Despite Chelsea’s impressive win today, Frank Lampard and his troops have six matches to play in the next two weeks. Among them is the duel with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and the club in the PL is on the verge of losing to 4th place.
