Everton manager Frank Lampard has urged his players to remain focused on a potentially ‘historic’ night where a win would ensure Premier League survival with one game remaining.

Since the start of March, Lampard’s struggling team has received five red cards, including Jarrad Branthwaite and Salomon Rondon in Sunday’s home defeat against Brentford.

It leaves the Merseyside giants with little room for error, given they have a league-high six red cards this season. Failure to beat Crystal Palace on Thursday night will push the relegation race to the last day when they go to Arsenal.

The atmosphere at Goodison Park will be electric. But Lampard is conscious that despite the anticipated adrenaline spike, he must maintain a full contingent on the pitch.

‘With the exception of Rondon, a lot of our red cards were not reckless. But in football, if you are already on a yellow card, don’t dive in,’ he advised.

‘Don’t tug on a shirt if you know it’s a yellow card offense”.

“We don’t want to become involved if we don’t have to. It’s natural to recognize the situation and desire to get the best possible outcome. But haste is one thing, and decision-making is another”.

‘We’ll use the atmosphere, but we need to strike a balance. Naturally, we’d like to maintain 11 players on the field.’

Everton supporters will swarm Goodison Park before kick-off to show their support for their players in the club’s most significant home game since 1994 when they overcame Wimbledon on the last day to save their place in the Premier League.

Burnley and Leeds will battle it out this time to avoid joining Norwich and Watford in the Championship next season.

Everton has been in the Premier League since 1954, and a pricey transfer to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is scheduled for the 2024-25 season.
Lampard stated, ‘Historically, it might be a significant night for us versus Palace because we know the circumstances.’

‘I’m not suggesting that avoiding relegation is reason for joy, but it is extremely crucial to the club’s short-term prospects.’

‘Football is about creating opportunities for players, coaches, and spectators to come together and enjoy something special.’
